Barack Obama said that if one of his daughters made a mistake and got pregnant out of wedlock he wouldn’t want her to be punished with a child. Pro lifers don’t see a child as punishment.”

Obama came out in support of Palin over this. Yeah, what else could he do, right?
Can anyone honestly tell me the conservatives wouldn't jump all over this if it had happened to HIS 17-year-old daughter (if he had one)? There would be a totally different spin on it and we ALL know it, careful not to bring race into it, of course.
No one in their right mind supports abortion; it's just that some of us want control over our own bodies. If you think you can tell me what to do with mine, at least let me tell you what to do with yours. :)
More government control or less? Make up your mind.

      1) Honestly, I don't want to get into a 376 page rant back and forth on this subject, but.......

2)There are millions out there in this country that not only support abortion, they encourage it, applaud it and demand that the government do exactly the same with our tax money.

3)I want control over my body as well. As a man, I have no idea what it's like to have a baby. However, if my wife were to decide to terminate the life of our child, we'd have a gynormous problem. I don't profess to have the answer but I can assure you we haven't found it yet.

        WuDrWu,

I respect where you're coming from and I certainly don't want to come off as a hard-core feminist. My wish would be that abortion would never even be considered because there wouldn't be the need for it, but that's unrealistic. We have to better educate our children and realize that telling them ,"No, don't have sex" just isn't going to cut it. When has that approach ever worked? Besides, this issue isn't so black and white, in cases of rape, incest, the life of the mother, etc.

          Why hide it?

If it were true, I wouldn't hide it. Because the truth always comes out and it never changes. NEVER.

              So why did you?

The problem is that once pregnant there are MORE bodies than just the woman's. No one is trying to tell you what to do with YOUR body. It seems you want control over more than just yours.

There is just something inherently wrong and immoral with equating abortion to birth control, they are not synonymous.

LESS is almost always the best choice.

That would be my wish as well and I do agree that it is unrealistic. I also totally agree this issue is not black and white......However, in the horrible examples you give, is it too much to ask to address these without giving carte blanche to use it as a form of birth control (again at the tax payers expense)?

IMHO, this issue exemplifies the problems with laws and government in our country. No common sense or middle ground is allowed.

As I said earlier, no 376 page diatribes, but there seem to be recurring themes that are not going away.

This isn't the government's problem, its the people's. The problem is exacerbated because of too much government intervention. We have created a welfare class that is not going away.....children are having children at the taxpayers expense. Born into a welfare class that is where they will remain because the GOVERNMENT tells them this....they do it with checks and benefits and ZERO accountability....only asking that those same people continue to vote them into office.

If you (and I don't mean you '08 I mean any general person out there) believe that Democrats are mostly right and the GOP is mostly wrong, at least admit that the GOP is honest in their goal, freedom to accomplish what you want....the Dems hold no such belief....sure they want to take from the rich and give to the poor (so do the Republicans, just not so much and they think there are different & more efficient ways to do so) but they want to do it on their terms while maintaining the biggest golden parachute the free world has ever seen (something both parties are excrutiatingly guilty of).

I agree with bascially what rayc said earlier.

It is my belief that at conception there is now a new life that should be afforded the protections of the Constitution. To me, terminating that life, for any reason other than to save another (i.e. the mother) is wrong, even in cases of rape or incest. I agree that those things are truly awful situations, but the right to life of the child trumps any other non-life threatening right, regardless of the emotional issues involved.

I have a neighbor who was a child of a rape.

The world is a better place because of that child.

You are missing the point of the debate. I (and others who are pro life) do not argue against Roe v Wade. Instead, I believe that it isn't the place of 9 justices on a federal bench to tell our state how to handle this particular issue. Each state and the people of the state should make a decision on abortion rights of the mother or the baby.

I have no problem with this issue being left up to the states. I appreciate all who have taken the time to kindly tell me your views on this hot-button issue. :)
